Too good to rush…

November 13th, 2012 by admin

I have just completed the ride in 4 days from Newcastle. The ride out past old Tyneside was interesting but it was great to escape this and explore the villages of Northumberland. I had a great night at The Cottage in Craster. What a lovely little harbour. We ate at the Craster Smokery and had a few pints at the Jolly Fisherman.

The ride through Amble was good – lovely marina. It’s really hard to rush as we had to stop and look at Warkworth Castle and stroll around Alnmouth. Berwick was our next stop, where we were made very welcome at the Queen’s Head Hotel. Great beer at the Barrels down on Bridge St and a brilliant curry at The Magna. We’d never been there before and were amazed by the city walls. Will def come back.

Also loved the gentle ride along the Tweed, through Kelso and onto St Boswells where we stayed at the Buccleuch. A real find! Great food and really friendly. Set us up well for the long final pull to Edinburgh. So many places to stop, so really looking forward to doing it again later in the summer.
